WHO'S YOUR DADDY?

My grandparents played mandolin and guitar, so my dad grew up with music in his home. My dad took violin lessons when he was young, and since the violin has the same strings and note positioning as the mandolin - he could play both. He would often, in his down time, sit or walk around the house and play music. Sometimes he'd put on records and play along with the music. When I was very young I once asked him to teach me the mandolin, so he taught me how to play "Yesterday" by the Beatles. I couldn't read music until I took paino lessons much later, and never did learn which notes were what on the mandolin, but I could play "Yesterday" (somewhere Paul McCartney is smiling). Up until a few years ago, he would still pick up the mandolin now and then, but his hands are not as nimble due to arthritis and so he rarely plays now. I miss the sound of the mandolin... and when I hear one it warms my heart.

Happy Father's Day
