Preface: I don't do well in hot and humid.
Add stupid and selfish people to the mix and I am really not OK.
Last night I went to a club to see a new band. I found good parking since it was Monday night and I figured the club wouldn't be to too crowded... I was wrong. Turns out it was a sold-out show and it was packed in there and HOT and sticky. Everyone had that damp "don't touch me unless I already know you" look. I was happy to hear music, but irritated at being in a hot club.
Two young girls stood in front of me - one had an intellectual look about her and the other seemed to be her not-so-smart roommate. Not-So-Smart made her way back to the bar to get a drink - but not a cold drink, a double-shot of something clear. Intelletual looked puzzled at the choice of beverage, but the two shared the drink anyway.
After the break between the opening and main act, people were starting to come back in the club and take their positions - this is when Not-So-Smart turned around and began handing me her empty glass:
Not-So-Smart: Can you pass this back?
Me: Excuse me?
Not-So-Smart: Pass this glass back.
(motions to the bar that was 10-people deep behind us and 12 feet away)
Me: Pass it back to who?
Not-So-Smart: Back... towards the bar.
Intellectual: (looks down)
Me: Well, why don't you walk back ten feet and put it on the bar?
Not-So-Smart: (blank stare): Huh?
Intellectual: (grabs glass): Here, I'll do it.
The guy next to me shook his head and rolled his eyes.
Exactly.

Good for you for putting "not so smart" in her place....too bad "Intellectual" didn't do the same!
I must be old....I dont miss those hot, sticky, fun time, hot men (maybe), good music bars....wait....maybe I DO miss them!! lol
How lame, this is why I stand near the stage, then you just put your glass on the stage itself.
The worst time to get the "don't touch me unless I already know you" look is after sex. Especially when you realize that you don't actually know the person.
Touché!
ummm omg I am linked here ... How cool! thanks! It probably sounds silly but thats(seeing an unexpected link) about the nicest thing that has happened to me today! lol
Ok and on your post... I think that that is exactly what I like about going to gigs... that you mingle with ALL SORTS of people~! They may make you crazy, but they are noteworthy for sure! I had a similar (not nearly as note worthy) experience at the Hooters concert last month...
The Goo Goo Dolls come to Philly in Aug and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see them! We'll see!
Cheers! Kate
Pittsburgh is just as bad. No need to hop in the shower every morning; stepping out of the front door gets you all the steamy, body-enveloping wetness you could ever hope for.
