I know that sometimes we identify with the lyrics of a song - with the perspective it delivers - it's part of the universal magic of music. But have you ever wanted to be the person that the song was about? The character in the song?
Confession: I always wanted to be the "Cinnamon Girl" in the Neil Young song of the same name. I actually looked up the "meaning" (I know, dumb) and apparently he wrote it about some hippie girl he met once, but sounds more like it could be a groupie... eh, who knows?
I wanna live with a cinnamon girl
I could be happy the rest of my life
With a cinnamon girl
A dreamer of pictures
I run in the night
You see us together,
chasing the moonlight,
My cinnamon girl
Ten silver saxes,
a bass with a bow
The drummer relaxes and waits between shows
For his cinnamon girl.
A dreamer of pictures
I run in the night
You see us together,
chasing the moonlight,
My cinnamon girl...
I also fancied being the "Brown-Eyed Girl" in Van Morrison's song too, but I'll spare you any more lyric postings.
If you care to, tell me about your fantasy song character.

This is incredibly fruity, but in highschool I always wanted to be the Elliott Smith song In the Lost and Found.
Aw, jeez, I love that song too.
I used to try to make Belle & Sebastian's "Seeing Other People" all about me.
i suppose i should say "Irresistible Bitch" :-D
She Belongs To Me - Bob Dylan. (you know, the one that goes: She's got everything she needs,
She's an artist, she don't look back...)
Thank god for the blogosphere where we can admit these shameful secret longings.
ooh, ooh and Cecila by Simon and Garfunkle. That one is totally left over from being 8 years old.
Even on the blogosphere you should never admit to identifying with "Cecilia." It's just gross.
"Soft Serve"-Soul Coughing
"Diamonds on the Souls of her Shoes"-Paul Simon but maybe because one of my bestest friends put it on a mix for me & said it reminded her of me.
"Purple Puppies"-Royce
"Girlfriend"-Matthew Sweet
I wanted to be the male character in Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up In Blue". Something about that song's story is sad, yet full of romantic hope.
