Who else had to watch this Academy-Award-winning short in grammar school? We were all carted into the auditorium/cafeteria and sat on the hard linoleum floor (the smarter of us cushioned our small butts on our sweaters) and watched "The Red Balloon" on a large portable screen.
I can still smell the musty stench of that day's fish-stick lunch and hear the loud clicking of the projector.
Here's a shit-quality clip from La Ballon Rouge:

Of course I remember it. It works on so many levels, it's a wonderful film.
I loved that flick. That balloon was magical to me. Kind of like a pet.
99 Luftballons, Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont...
I loved that, I saw it in first grade.
when i was in elementary school they showed us moves during recess when it was raining. they had Free Willy and Star Wars. We had some assemblies: Blood Brothers, Philadelphia, OJ Simpson verdict, The Birds.
That's a whole lotta AIDS for eight-year-olds.
Never watched it, but at a history pagent I played Andrew Jackson and ran around a stage popping a bunch of red balloons that were tied with leather and beads and had feathers taped on to them.
yeah...I've never seen that. but it was cool. I want a red balloon like that!
This is the first Ive seen of it, and I like it. We were deprived kids in the U.K They used to make us dance around May Poles. =(
