She is right - the self-assured, independent, happy woman doesn't need a man to "complete her" - but simply puts out there what she wants in a partner by being her own best partner first. And just when you start to feel that you're getting to that point of I want instead of I need... you find yourself becoming attracted to the self-assured, independent, happy man. Actually, I think this works both ways for men and women. Of course this realization often happens after experiencing a series of philistines, but... that's online dating for you.

Good post. You gave me a chuckle on that last bit.
I dunno....should I be glad I am married?? lol
yeah, the whole want not need thing works in theory but then you're in it and like "FORGET IT, I CAN'T CONFORM TO THESE RULES ANYMORE!!"
Thanks for the plug:) It's interesting, love & the like. And really, for years I would look at happy couples & be all 'wow she's perfect & she has HIM & he just loves the hell out of her. why can't I have that?' until I really started enjoying being alone. Don't get me wrong, I love Ethan, but I'll admit that some nights I kinda wish that I could have the apartment alone & sit around in a bra & eat all the ice cream or drink all of the wine without someone else there. Kinda like a date with myself.
