I went to a concert with CG and two of his friends who were not only extremely nice people - but were music lovers who frequent concerts more than anyone I've ever met. They see EVERYTHING and had great stories of concerts I wanted to see but didn't. They also knew lots of trivia about every artist under the sun. I do not claim to know everything about music, but I have extremely diverse tastes and so this was a treat for me. Ironcially, we found ourselves in a bit of a time-warp sandwich which was the topic of discussion during our long trip out of the parking lot.
Sitting in front of us an older group of people (a couple soccer moms and their spouses) who seemed so very happy to be out of the house that they jumped up and danced - even during ballads (thank God for jumbo-trons). They must've heard our yapping about music before and in between sets because:
S-Mom #1 - Was that last one a Roy Orbison tune?
S-Dad #2 - Could have been some 60s thing.
S-Mom #1 (turned around) - Do you know who originally sang that last song he covered?
Me: Cheap Trick.
S-Mom#2 - Oh, right!
S-Dad#2: They knew!?
S-Mom#1 - Wow, you guys are good.
Sitting in the seats in back of us were the opposite group - some younger kids. As music piped throught the amphitheatre between sets we heard:
Boy#1: Who is that singing, Sting?
Girl#1: Yeah, but with that group he used to be with...
Girl #2: I think it was The Police?
Ah... music really IS for the masses, that's why I love it.
