Everyone was talking about it today/last night - Salon forums online, this morning at the coffee machine, the gas station, in line at the super market and post office, the water cooler, in class, at each other's desks, the local news, the entertainment shows... and last but not least, blogs. Some felt ripped off by the anti-climatic and ambigous ending - and some (like yours truly) thought it was damn near brilliant.
But, however you felt about how David Chase ended this amazing television epic that has become a pop cultural phenomenon - those of us who were there from the beginning - and those that jumped on the ride even mid-way - will sorely miss it.
I am fascinated with the whole mafia/gangster theme and rarely miss a movie or TV show that depicts it. But if you have to narrow it down the best - you have to go Coppola, Scorsese, and now Chase - of those directors that captured the wiseguy lifestyle and created characters that were extremely attractive and repulsive all at once.
Tony, Paulie, Christopher, Big Pussy, Silvio, Uncle Jun, Phil, Johnny Sac, Carmella, Meadow, AJ et al -
alla Salut.

"Don't stop..."
I was angry at first but came around to seeing its genius. I think Tony got whacked.
I was angry at first too! But now I think the ending was absolutely brill.
We'll be talking about that show for the rest of our lives...
