Yes - it's 9:00am and 90 degrees here in lovely LA. Every year around this time we get massive heat wave, and every year we all act surprised "Can you believe how hot it is? I can't believe how hot it is!" It's hot. So we seek pools, beaches, friends and relatives with central air. I have a small apartment so I installed a small a/c window unit (that's the only size that would fit in the kind of French windows I have). On a quasi hot day... say, 84-90 max, it works fairly well cooling up the place, but when we get in scorcher territory and it's baking at 100 all day, it becomes the little a/c unit that would if it could. I also opted out of two BBQs... do I want to stand around a grill eating hot food when it's 95 in the shade? No way.
So what else can yo do in heat like this, but go see a movie. Last night we saw 3:10 to Yuma at my urging because I LOVE westerns - and there's nothing like seeing sweaty guys in layers of clothing in the desert while you munch on popcorn in the a/c theater. It was VERY good! What I like about westerns is the ever-present definition of good and bad - it's seemingly obvious, but in this Elmore Leonard short story if you're smart, it's a complex choice. Remake of the 1957 version with Glenn Ford and Van Heflin, this has Christian Bale and Russell Crowe - who had fallen off my A list since "Gladiator" but redeems himself quite nicely as the chief bad guy. Peter Fonda does a good turn at the hired protector of the stage coach that Crowe has robbed a record 21 times. If it's a western, it's gotta have a Fonda in it.
It's 90 degrees at 9:00am.. ugh. Some friends also offered their well-air-conditioned house for use this weekend if I am so inclined... we could take over some popcorn and some DVDs (some westerns of course, and that includes Star Wars) but I think I'm gonna check the listings... maybe a fantasy, horror, comedy?

I want to see that movie in the worst way. Now that you've given your seal of approval on it I can't lose.
"King of Kong" was a good documentary, if you are into that sort of thing.
Good alternative!
I didn't get an email!!! Hope I didn't throw it away because I don't know your name. Send it again & I promise, I'll be more careful this time:)
i generally make it a rule to dislike the fondas. but i guess i can make an exception.
Did you see Cinderella Man? It's no western, but I thought Russell Crowe was great in it.
