Memories can be either really hurtful or really lovely. You can't always pick and choose, so you just have to go with the flow of the moment as it enters your consciousness. And then there are times when you avoid what you know will prompt a memory... avoidance is the fear of not getting the better of the two extremes. But I forge ahead anyway, and pull out the memory box... and even though it's a mix of bitter and sweet, it makes me miss the sweet and sprinkle that with a little sadness on top. Memories are also markers of where you once were - where you are now - and where you're headed. Bitter and sweet - they serve a useful purpose.

it's probably totally ironic, and i know i'm the last person you expect to comment, but you may remember, speaking of memories, that this is the 1 year anniversary of my friend Ethan's death.
I hadn't remembered that, but appropriately, Ethan was a kind soul that left behind many lovely memories for his friends and family.
Yes, you are the last person I expected to comment, but it's nice that you read it, I hoped you would.
This post reminds me of the Joan Baez song "Diamonds and Rust".
I always felt like she was singing about Dylan in that song.
just beautiful!
