I meant to write a post like this in 2007... but I thought the topic sad and slightly morbid. However, I'm gonna do it now - because maybe some of you out there in the blog-o-sphere share my feelings. This will cover 2007-2008.
Even though I do not personally know these famous people, they have become a part of my life experience. Perhaps in some small way - they made me think.
So here's my list of celebrity losses... to whom I bid a fond farewell.
I do hope that wherever their souls did journey after this earthly life, it was a smooth ride and a soft landing.

George Carlin - A comedian whose humorous perspective
of life transcended and amused generations

Sydney Pollack - American director of note;
"Tootise" "Out of Africa" "The Way We Were"...
and quite a good actor as well.

Yves Saint Laurent - Fashion, Fashion and Fashion.

Charleton Heston - Hated his politics,
but loved that he parted the Red Sea.

Stan Winston - The man behind the magic -
special effects artist extraordinaire.

Harvey Korman - Made it worth staying up
to watch the Carol Burnett Show as a kid.

Tim Russert - A huge loss in the world of
news, media and politics.

Roy Scheider - Delivered one of the best movie lines:
"I think we're gonna need a bigger boat." - Jaws

Heath Ledger - a sad end to a promising acting career.
Looking forward to "The Dark Knight"

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. - author of one of my favorite books:
"Slaughterhouse Five"

Ingmar Bergman - Director of Swedish films.
During a screening of "Fanny & Alexander" in college, a man sat next to me and my friend and asked "Where's Ingrid Bergman?"

Luciano Pavoratti: All I can say is, what a voice!

Carlo Ponti: Husband of Sofia Loren and producer of great cinema (mostly Italian, of course) like "Dr Zhivago" 'Blow-Up" and Fellini's "La Strada"

Arthur C. Clarke- Co-writer of the screenplay w/ Stanley Kubrick
for "2001: A Space Odyssey" (based on his short story "The Sentinel")
Did you know that HAL is one letter down from IBM?

Keshi.
It's amazing how quickly you forget when a famous person dies. I totally forgot about Roy Scheider!
Carlo Ponti is dead?? Blimey, I didn't know that.
Great post
i bawled like a child over one of these people. won't say who, so that the others aren't offended.
great list!
I wasn't all that interested in Heath Ledger when he was alive, but ever since he died, I've been SEEING him all over NY. Like ghost versions. It's the weirdest thing ever.
