EATING AFTER WATCHING BURN AFTER READING

When it was decided that we'd catch the 7pm show in Silver Lake at local movie palace THE VISTA instead of the 8pm show in Burbank (because Silver Lake, my 'hood, is a gazillion times cooler), I drove swiftly but safely from the suburbs where my parents live down the I-10 and through downtown traffic. I slowed down just enough to allow my very very very good friend, JDN, to hop in my car so we could see the new Cohen Bros. offering, Burn After Reading.  In spite of getting there a smidge later than I usually like to arrive, we got good seats and popcorn and drinks in time to catch most of the Three Stooges short before the main feature.

I gave the movie a 4/5 rating... JDN liked it, just not as much as I did. Frances McDormand is brilliant per usual... with Malkovich, Clooney and Pitt rounding out the fine quirky cast of characters. If you're a fan of the Cohen comedies, this should be right up your alley. JDN got recognized by an old high school friend from Chicago who didn't like the movie that much. (can it be there was a kind of regional taste thing happening?) Hmm, anyway...

It was a lovely evening so we took a stroll down Sunset Blvd., hoping to be inspired by one of the open eateries along the way. We were hit with inflated prices at every turn... so the only answer was to drive a short distance to Midnite Taco. Now, I do not like posting too closely on a similar subject - but JDN insisted I do just that because, and let's be frank, his blogging reputation is not on the line here. But never mind that, on with my story.

Even though it's been a couple years since he and I hit up the Midnite Taco, we found it refreshing that in this day of escalating gas and food prices, that all has remained the same at the taco stand (also known as El Gran Burrito).

As you can see, it's a 24/7 operation where the tacos are still $1  a-piece and the burritos only $3. We split 4 tacos and a burrito and a large Sprite. Were we full? YES! Were we satisfied? YES! Did we stick it to the man by refusing to pay $12 for a turkey burger elsewhere? YES! YES! YES!

Now I know what I want for lunch. I saw that movie as well. Not the Cohen Bros. best, but certainly entertaining.
