SOLSTICE or SOUL TEST?

Today should look like this. Blue skies - warm temps - picnics - BBQs - flip-flops, etc. It's the eve of the summer solstice .

Now, in Cali, we have what's called "June gloom" - which means a marine layer of high clouds in the morning which burns off to a warm and sunny day by about noon. However, this year the gloom has extended its stay and is remaining on/off throughout the day. So instead of the burn-off we have the overcast days which is giving my sweaters more wear than anticipated and hanging in my closet are at least three new sun dresses.

But the weather is not the only thing that seems out of sorts. Widespread protests in the middle east - images which cannot be censored because of this internet age of instant communication (I do not Twitter, but in this instance it's become an important tool for those needing their voices heard). Economic unrest in this country - in Cali, unemployment is up to nearly 12%. These are trying times for sure. Wonder if the universe deals us all these personal and societal challenges to keep us aware?

All in all, I'm feeling pretty lucky right now. I've got a job - a roof over my head - food in the fridge - friends and family. I'm sitting in Silver Lake coffee sipping on a light roast listening to Al Green and Stevie Wonder when I SHOULD be reading...

I want to wear my sundresses too! Boo on June Gloom.

The 12% is quite sad.

At least we have Al and Stevie to keep us all company during these bad times...
