Took a sojourn to Orange County (if you live in LA you may relate to this hellish freeway trek) to see Nine Inch Nails. I was going with the intention of sitting up on the amphitheater lawn on a warm summer night w/ a cold beer in one hand and a turkey dog in the other while relying on jumbo-trons to survey the ant-sized bands on stage. But as it happened, the planets were aligned and we ended up with GREAT terrace seats instead. It was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. The stage/set design was ultra-cool and the performances were amazing. When NIN hit big in the 90s I was well into the grunge thing (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc) and it wasn't until the last 4 years or so that my very musical friend, JDN, familiarized me even more with industrial rock.
Peaches opened the show with lots of crazy style and flair, then quintessential Goth band Bauhaus came on, with Peter Murphy still proving he is Godfather of Goth - for who else, in the middle of summer, would wear a dark velvet suit, brocade vest, pointed shoes and stuff red rose petals in his truss?
Trent Reznor (now less Goth and more rock), is buffed-out, short-haired, sober and at 41, rocks hard on stage with his vocals better than ever. He remains the multi-talented musician who was credited with bringing industrial music to the masses. His current set list is a tight and inspiring mix of old NIN classics with newer offerings from the latest CD. They omitted their cover of Queen's "Get Down Make Love" - one of my favorites - but the terrific show more than made up for it.
But after my third time seeing NIN, the question still remains -
is Trent Reznor God?

he has sunshine coming out of his butt!!!
Peaches opened for them? The Dresden Dolls did not too long ago, which would have been pretty sweet.
Saw the Dresden's open for them last year too - it was sweet.
