When I was very small my parents took me to my first July 4th fireworks show at a local park. I remember it being very loud and I hid under a blanket and missed most of the show. Well, got over that little phobia a year or two later when I learned the "Star Spangled Banner" in school - then I would pretend I was IN the Revolutionary War every 4th.
I've spent that last several 4th of July's at a friend who lives just above Dodger Stadium - so it's a patio party firework show. He has them at least three times a summer, but the July 4th fireworks are the best. This year my fireworks host opted to go to another July 4th party across town, so we who loyally attend his gig were left to fend for ourselves. I ended up in Alhambra at my friend K's house (an LA suburb and a block from Phil "she was already dead when I shot her" Spector's house) - where "safe and sane" fireworks are legal, but actually in the minority compared to the illegal ones that were being set off mere feet from me.
From a lawn chair in K's front yard - I ate carne asada tacos and watched while fireworks were set of in every direction across the sky. All for the price of a hairline-cracked brake light cover - as I backed into another car's tire while trying to avoid fountains of shimmering sparkly torches in the middle of the street.
Come to think of it - Phil Spector is kind of a firework show in and of himself. You be the judge:

just once I'd like to use the "dead when I shot them" excuse and have it work.
the genius is that he's making himself look more innocuous with subliminal clown signals.
Actually, I think he's hiding behind the famous "wall of sound."
Phil Spector is the guy they based Z-Man on in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Oh oh oh how I adore the links between our blogs.
