I TUNED... or WE TUNED?

Deepak Chopra says there is no such thing as coincidence - he calls it "synchrodestiny." DC says what we call coincidences are really just little bits of information that we need to make our way on our life's path and if you pay close attention to these seemingly unrelated moments, they will eventually link and make sense to you. I can't get into his whole philosophy at the moment, but it certainly does happen more often than not when you pay close attention to how many coincidental moments you encounter and note in one day.

For me - this happens A LOT with music. Sitting in my favorite coffee shop over the weekend working on some writing stuff - I decide that I don't care for whatever music that shift of baristas is playing over the loud speakers (in this case it was the Gorillaz - who I kind of felt were OK before I had to subtitle and frame-time a lot of their lyrics on a DVD performance - I am still bitter about the experience). So I take out my trusty iPod earphones plug them in my laptop and decide to play a variety of tunes from my iTunes library while I work. But somehow I unwittingly communicate my preferences through some psychic hotline into the minds of the baristas and they begin playing the same music... and not just one or two songs... but specific artists as well.

So I turn off the iTunes and remove my earphones. Of course, in addition to music I also hear "Double non-fat latte and a tuna on whole wheat bagel for Priscilla" - but perhaps that pertinent info will come up later in the day...or in my life... you never know.

I know what you mean. This afternoon I was lamenting having left my copy of "Pretenders II" in my dad's car last night and lo and behold "Message of Love" was used as music on "As the World Turns" today. Incidentally, I do not usually watch "As the World Turns." In addition to hearing C. Hynde flip out in the background, I was also treated to "Carry on My Wayward Son" and "Blinded by the Light." Had I been in possession of some booze, it would have been a Friday at Camden. Way to go "ATWT" and synchrodensity!

OK - another plot twist... I was just thinking this last weekend about how Bruce Springsteen wrote "Blinded by the Light" although it was recorded by Manford Mann prior to Springsteen emerging as a huge artist... GODDAMN IT!

whenever my roommate and i drive past a specific stretch of griffith park, fleetwood mac plays on the radio. i wish i were kidding.

I would sit on that specific stretch of griffith park as much as possible. You know; just to go my own way.

Similarly, everytime I'm counting on good fortune or there's a special occasion in my honor, I ALWAYS hear Lisa Loeb on the radio or in a restaurant. When I hear my little lady on the airwaves, I know everything will be all right.

Okay, you won't fucking believe it!

brooklynseahag.blogspot.com has posted about parallel parking and my entire day has been about parallel parking. You've opened a can of worms! Unleashed a monster! And the worst part is that after you bring up synchrodestiny, we see it everywhere. Talk about synchrodestiny - which I humorously spell "synchrodensity" everytime I type it! Jesus Christ!

is it a coincidence that the name "Priscilla" was in your post?

long story, and no, the Priscilla i'm talking about isn't a woman actually, but that's just freaky... not that i ever believed in coincidence... oh man...

What a "coincidence"! Just today I was blinded by the light, and then I got all revved up like a deuce, another rumor in the night. DC kicks ass!
