CHILI WHEN IT'S CHILLY: A CULINARY EXPERIENCE

So the weather just slightly turned in California this past week. We went from 90-degree weather mid-week to a lovely 70-degrees by the weekend and FINALLY an evening where a sweater and/or hoodie was necessary. Although it's also been windy which means fires in some dryer areas (we've had no rain yet)... ugh.

Anyway... last night I was invited to observe and partake in a culinary delight. My very very good friend JDN asked me over to experience his own recipe for homemade chicken chili. A few years ago I was lucky enough to taste it - but now I'd get to watch the magic and assist, ever so little, in the preparation.

First - careful shopping for all the ingredients, including beverage and cracker accessories.

Second -  the chopping of green, red, and yellow peppers and one onion. It's a good thing that the ending of "Atonement" was playing on the HDTV or I'd have no excuse for crying during the onion chopping.

Second, add the chicken the sauces, the water etc etc etc. At different points beans are added... salt... chili pepper...

and then... the secret ingredient. (sorry, I've been sworn to secrecy - but I must tell you it totally differentiates this chili from any other I've ever had!)

Once ready... it can be served over pasta or you can eat as is or dip saltines into the chili (which is an amazing combo).  This meal can be summed up in one word: DELICIOUS.

THANK YOU, JDN.

(*NOTE... part of the reason I haven't been blogging a whole lot lately is.. well, yours truly was on a political board live blogging during the debates and in the heat of exchanging quips about the candidates... a Wyder's Pear Cider, uh, spilled onto my keyboard and sort of disabled the delete key - the period key and the L and M. So I bought a new keyboard on eBay and installed it myself. In short.. I'm back.)

I read that last line as: "I'm short... I'm black." I think I need glasses.

Is the miller lite part of the recipe? What about the fresca?

Good to see you back. Onions are horrible but the end result definitely makes it all worthwhile. It just looks wonderful.
