SI, MAS QUE NADA

Saw the 40th celebration of Sergio Mendes and the Brazil 66 at the Hollywood Bowl last night (thank you AGAIN, JM and JB). A lovely evening - great company - box seats (dead center) - Sergio, Herb Alpert , John Legend, India.Arie and a host of Brazilian rappers and guitarists. Having Brasil on the brain when I got home, I scanned YouTube for something, you know... Brasilian. There wasn't much in the way of Sergio - just the recent "Mas Que Nada" cover with the Black Eyed Peas...hm... eh, nope. But then I came across this - Sinatra/Jobim "Girl from Ipanema" - one of my favorite duets of all time. (1967 - smoking was still OK on TV, but even if it weren't, please, it's Frank)



Thanks to my friend Gary's urging, earlier in the weekend I was also lucky to see a solo Neko Case at the Henry Fonda Theater. Neko Case has a lovely voice, she's funny and brazen on stage, and her music is great. She's better live than recorded, in my opinion, but her last two albums are terrific and she did some great stuff with the Sadies and the New Pornographers. So catch her act if you ever get the chance.
