For a change of pace and scenery I've been driving home a slightly different way the last couple weeks. Enroute I saw this lovely house for sale and on the sign it said "new low price" and there was to be an open house soon. It's a fairly nice neighborhood so I'm figuring the price probably dropped a few hundred grand or so. It's charming from the outside and definitely has a great view. I've fantasized about buying that house... about turning into that driveway every night instead of just driving by... a real home. I imagined it was as good on the inside as it was on the outside.
I mentioned this fantasy house to a friend, so on a whim we drove by and attended the open house. To my surprise... this very expensive (albeit discounted) fantasy house needed work. The layout was fine, the yards and patios and view were lovely... but on the inside there was some serious structural repair that needed attending to, amongst several on-the-surface things that were just in sore need of a spit and polish.
My friend said, "It's amazing that they are asking so much for something that needs some serious fixing."
It was disillusioning, but it's the same old story. The thing you long for at a distance... the thing you think you want that will fulfill some deep desire is not what it seems, and as is - not worth the asking price.

Oh, don't I now it. Sun, you snuck that one in on us, didn't you?
good little metaphor for life :)
I often take different routes than the one I travel everyday. Glad I'm not the only one.
you sound like you're reading "the bell jar." relax this weekend, kid. watch a disney movie or something.
disillusionment is clarity disguised as disappointment.
hang in there, kiddo - the right house will cross your path soon enough.
