WISHING ON A STAR(S)

Last night or rather, this morning, the Persied Meteor shower was visible just about everywhere. Several years ago I'd gone to the desert with a group of friends to star gaze at a meteor shower - only this one took place in the fall or winter and it was so friggin' cold I could barely see the whole thing through the 2-inch hole opening of my draw-string hoodie over my face (I'm such a weather wimp). Still, it was an impressive sight, so I thought I'd investigate this year's shower which will take place on a lovely (and mild) summer night:

The meteor shower will be easiest to see away from any cities to avoid light pollution. It's possible to see up to one meteor per minute if conditions are right.

Light Pollution? Away from the city? Residing near downtown LA, I was down on both counts... however, we did try and view these falling stars and make the appropriate wishes - - since it was also the "new moon" I figured I was doubly favored and would take what I could get.

I so wanted to see that!! But alas, it is also hard to "get away from the city" when you live in a big one.

I'm really sad that we don't get to see stars in NYC.
