So this year a friend and I attempted a mini baking session which was inspired by our having gotten new baking cook books from America's Test Kitchen. We began in the morning with a run to **Rock 'n' Roll Ralph's in Hollywood then spent the early afternoon baking away. Adhering to the request for "more gingerbread men, they're cute" I dutifully cut out many more of them than the Xmas trees. Well, the gingerbread men were not as easy to ice as we thought and we ended up biting off the heads of many that looked like homeless ginger men than cheery holiday represents. But they turned out OK... we need a course in icing for sure, but at least our peanut butter kisses turned out OK.

In between baking and icing I was to do a little shopping and make a cameo at a party. I rushed around, got home, did some last minute on-line shopping and then went to meet friends for dinner first before party. I discovered I'd left my wallet at home - along with all my credit cards. So they picked up the tab and even spotted me some cash for the valet... but when I got back in my car I realized that I HAD NO GAS and the friends were long gone. I pulled into the nearest gas station and called AAA roadside service. I had to get out and walk to the corner to let AAA know where I was - the station attendant watching closely - and a car pulled up and rolled down the window:
RED CAR WOMAN: Excuse me, do you know where we can find the nearest KFC?
ME: I'm not from around here. But if you like Mexican, I just got back from El Cholo down the street.
RED CAR WOMAN: ......
Station attendant now convinced I am up to no good.
Finally AAA showed up in a giant flat bed truck.
AAA GUY: Um.. you're at a gas station.
ME: Dude, I have no money.
AAA GUY: Oh.
He filled my car with 1/2 tank of gas (yay!) but I then had to skip the party because my cookies awaited icing on the other side of town.

well done!
Wow, that's kind of a christmas miracle. And hey-- I didn't know that AAA gives you a free 1/2 tank of gas? I'm never paying again!
